SAUL BASS research

In this section I will be looking at a range of title sequence designers, and the work they created. This will inform the work I will be creating.

I will start by looking at Saul Bass. Saul bass was born on the 8th May 1920 in New York City and died 25th April 1996 in Los Angeles. Saul Bass was an American graphic designer and academy award winning filmmaker, best known for his design of motion picture title sequences, film posters and corporate logos.

He done posters like The Shinning, Such Good Friends, The Two of Us and lots more.

I like the way the poster are put together without actually using a computer and I like the way he uses only two or three colours in his poster but its creates an good effect.

Saul Bass done loads of tile sequences such as Around the world in Eighty days and Anatomy of Murder and it’s A Mad Mad World. I looked at all this title sequence and considering its not made by computer it is pretty good and is very well put together. Also it’s pretty simple but it works well and makes a good effect. Also the colours are not that bright but it still works and draws us in.

Mauric Binder research

Maurice Binder was born on 25th August 1925 and died on 4th April 1991 and was a film title designer best known for his for his work on 14 James Bond films.
He done the film squences for films like Diamonds Are Forever (1971) The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) and Licence to Kill (1989).
I thinks his work is very good and is very creative and also he is very clever in the way he put them together and making the way he make them look.

new title sequences research

Casino Royal -https://www.youtube.com/results?q=casino+royale+title+sequence

This is done on computer and has a very new style of art compared to the old style title sequences we look at yesterday and also has a very mature theme. Also it actually has the actor who plays James Bond which is Craig Daniel so you know who is in it before you actually watch the movie. This is made by Daniel Kleinium.

Monsters Inc.-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GXmdUL3BDQ
This is a very good sequence title and match the target audience in which Monster Inc. is made for which is younger people. This is because it has bright colours and it can draw the children is because they would not want to watch it if its dull and boring and also it is very fun and child friendly. This is made by Susan Bradley.

Lemony Snickets a Series of Unfortunate
Events-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JoBnHYKcCRU

This a very plain title sequence and uses very little colour in which makes an eerie atmosphere in which it links into the film because its an eerie film and isn't a very jolly film until the end in which it could give you a image of what the film about. Also it shows you that it may be about three children and a man which follows them everywhere.

Evalutation

In animation this term we got set a task to create a ten seconds title sequences in which could link in with our video film. We first started with research about old and new title sequences in which we can get inspiration to make our own. We then done a mind map with idea we came up with, i choose to do a horror theme title sequence because it easy because we then doing the same in video. I then designed a title brand name for the title sequence which I called it raven. I then designed a storyboard in which started with a girl ghost in the college toilettes. It then zooms in and you then see a raven flying through the forest and then it end with the title brand name I designed. I designed the title sequences through drawing the pictures first and then photo shopping them and making the background blend in with the pictures.

The title sequence target audience would be 14-18 year olds because it is supposed to be scared and under 14 might get scared. Also it would be for both male and female because they both like horror movies.

To improve i must next time try and added in an eye and make it more like a title sequences and more effective but it is a good try for my first time in making one. The thing I down well is that I managed to photoshop the picture and place them into final cut pro and also its my first time using final cut pro.
If i could do it again i would change the way i done it and try and make to different and see what comes out better.
This title sequence would not be used on an actual movie because it not professional enough and compared to the title sequence I have looked at it does not actually look like a real one.
